South of the BorderCORONA 4.25 CORONA PREMIER 4.25 DOS EQUIS LAGER 4.50 MODELO ESPECIAL 4.50 NEGRA MODELO 4.50 Beer StylesLAGER - Lagers are fermented with Lager yeast at low temperatures (50 degrees and below), and are conditioned at near freezing temperatures for up to three months which give them clearer bodies and drier, crisper flavor profiles. Lagers may be golden or dark. ALE - Ales are fermented with Ale yeast at warmer temperatures and shorter periods of time than Lagers. It is this Ale yeast that makes Ales typically fruitier and more complex than Lagers. In America, the term is incorrectly used to describe the beer's alcohol content. BOCK - Orginating in the German town of Einbeck, Bocks can be dark and pale gold (helles) and are malty, strong, and full-bodied. OKTOBERFEST - Originating in Vienna and orginally brewed in March and tapped in the fall, this beer is bronze with a medium body, and a sweet, malty finish. PALE ALE - Pale Ales are amber to copper color with a crisp hop character. These beers are fruity, hoppy, and have caramel flavors. INDIA PALE ALE - IPA is a style that has similar attributes as a Pale Ale but has more robust hopping and stronger alcohol content. PILSNER - Named for the town of Pilsen in Czechoslovakia where this style originated, Pilsners are a type of Pale Lager with a golden to copper color. The aroma will be somewhat floral from the hops, and the flavor should be mildy malty with a pronounced flavor of hops and a dry finish. PORTER - A true Porter should be rich with malt, chocolate, and roasty flavors. STOUT - A Stout is very dark, almost black, with pronounced roastiness and hop bitterness which comes from the use of roasted barley instead of roasted malt. Stouts originated in Dublin with Guiness. WHEAT BEER - Wheat Beers are brewed with more malted wheat than malted barley and have notes of fruit and an effervescent nature. American wheat beers are usually cloudy cousins of hoppy American-Style ales. |
